The Surge entered it’s second tournament with everyone on the roster in attendance (although Sarah was sidelined with a knee injury).   The Surge had learned a lot in its first tournament 3 weeks ago.  Since then, the coach had made some changes and worked with the team on a number of areas. The Surge really came through with strong performances by all players and ending the tournament with a second place.  GREAT JOB!!!

Game 1: Surge - 2 / Santa Cruz Tsunami - 0

The Surge defense came on strong early in the game.  The whole team did a great job of ball control with a lot of passing and trapping. It wasn't long before the Surge started making multiple shots on the Tsunami goal.  Kristen did an excellent job as sweeper and stopped a number of breakaways before they got up much steam.  Then on a shot from the far right, Jenelle got one past the keeper for a score just before half.    Not long into the second half, Kristy made a nice pass to Amber, who one touched it up to Jenelle. Jenelle brought it up and made a nice cut to the center before booting it in for the second score.  The rest of the game was more of the same, excellent ball control and passing by everyone with shots on goal by a number of players.

Game 2: Surge - 4 / Flash - 0

Again, nice passing, Laura, Kim, Alicia, just to name a few. Then some scoring, Katy goal kicked to Jenelle who brought it up and put it in.  Then Brittany took it up from midfield and booted it in.  Then the Flash brought it down and made a great shot on our goal but Erin saved it with a beautiful save sliding on one knee.  Then Jenelle took advantage of the wind and booted one in from the side.  Then to make it 4-0, Kristy stole the ball from one of the Flash defenders, dribbled it up and booted it in.  

Game 3: Surge - 1 / Pleasanton Adrenaline - 1

The Surge opened up with a few shots on the Adrenaline goal.  Then the Adrenaline got a few off on the Surge goal.  Jessica was having a very good game bringing it down and crossing in front of the net. Several battles took place in front of the net as a result of Jessica's efforts but they fought us off each time.  Just before the half the Adrenaline started making runs at the Surge goal.  Kim cut them off on several occasions and Erin made some great saves.  Then the right wing of the Adrenaline made a nice score from far out in the corner.  Jessica made another nice run down and cross just before the half but when the whistle blew we still had no score.  The second half was more of the same with battles on both ends of the field.  Then on a nice throw in from Laura, Jessica made another run down the side.  She crossed to Amber who shot a little wide but Alica was on the ball and booted the ball in right in front of the goal. 

Championship Game:  Surge - 1 / Wonders - 3

The Wonders controlled the ball more then the Surge and it kept our defense very busy.   Shannon made some very good plays on defense.  Tough battles for the ball were taking place throughout the game.  Brittany made a nice score during the second half off a corner kick. In the end though, the Wonders had the game.
