Tournament Summary: The Surge entered it’s first tournament ever with only 11 players and then had it’s first two games against the two toughest teams of the tournament. It was quite a challenge but the girls played hard and kept their spirits up. In the end, Surge placed last in the tournament but a great deal was learned and everyone had a pretty good time so we all walked away with smiles. Summary of each game: Game 1: Surge - 0 / San Ramon Fear - 4 The Fear came out and dominated. They scored early and kept our defense working overtime throughout the whole game. The Fear had over 10 shots on our goal per half. Erin played keeper the whole game and saved us from a runaway defeat and Katy stood out on defense. The ref made a number of strange calls against us but in truth it really didn’t affect the score. Reports from the girls were that the girls on the Fear were a good group and showed a lot of sportsmanship. Game 2: Surge 2 / Peninsula Spirits - 6 The Spirits scored in the first 5 minutes of play and then again at around the 13 minute mark. Then it was our turn as Brittany dribbled up and scored off a cross from Jenelle. Then the Spirits came back and answered with another goal making it 1-3. Next it was Amber’s turn with a very high kick from just past midfield. The ball seemed to hang high in the air but finally came down right into the goal making it 2-3. The Spirits were not about to let us catch up however and put the game away with 3 more goals in the second half. Game 3: Surge - 0 / Napa Crushers - 1 The first 15 minutes of play looked fairly even with the ball getting play on both sides. During the next 10 minutes the Crushers turned up the heat and had several shots on our goal including one that bounced off our goalpost. Then in the last 5 minutes before the half the Surge came on strong and made several shots on the Crushers goal. Then early into the second half the Crushers passed up the length of the field and scored. The rest of the game was a fairly even battle. |
